Day Thirty Five: Street Scene – Heelan’ Coo

Ashton Lane (Image by DavidDMuir)

The wet cobblestones of Ashton Lane,
With their hollow tone,
Smiled in vane, as a walnut brown
Highland cow clip clopped it’s hoofs
Along it’s shimmering
well beaten thoroughfare.

Such a bizarre sight had gathered admirers,
As the bewildered beast beset upon
This moist and unknown stony territory.
Cameras at the ready, onlookers captured the moment,
Doing so in defiance of the man that held the other end
Of the rope
around its nose, who said;
“No pictures please.”

From around the corner came another
This time smaller and blacker in colour
(hornless and lead by a female too).
The assembled masses “Aw”ed
When the coo passed and nuzzled it’s comrade
(Perhaps from affection, perhaps in trepidation)
But were puzzled
As calf and coo
Were lead into a restaurant,
and one mirthful man mused
“Ah hope thur no gonnae eat them in there.”
